We’re thrilled to share a very special Tiny Spiny moment!
New Zealand children’s presenter and storyteller Suzy Cato has brought Tiny Spiny to life on her Treehut TV channel, sharing the story with young readers and families.
It’s incredibly exciting to see Tiny Spiny — our little tuatara with big dreams — finding his way into the hands, hearts and imaginations of children beyond the pages of his very first book.
Tiny Spiny is a story about courage, resilience and believing in yourself, even when things don’t quite go to plan. So having Suzy, whose work has inspired generations of New Zealand children, read his story and give him a voice, is a particularly special moment for us.

This video captures one of those unforgettable moments — seeing the finished book in my hands for the very first time. From the vibrant illustrations and carefully crafted pages to the beautiful print and premium finish, it’s wonderful to finally see all those years of creative work come together as a real book.
Tiny Spiny is my first solo picture book as author and illustrator, published through my independent children's publishing imprint, Star Spun Books. The story celebrates individuality, curiosity and courage, while encouraging young readers to discover and care for the unique wildlife of Aotearoa. And this is just the beginning…

We had a great opening night!
"One Colourful Journey" Exhibition
22 March - 3rd April 2025
On Friday, 21st February saw the opening of the "One Colourful Journey" exhibition by Suzanne Simpson at the Mangawhai Art Gallery. Thanks go to all the crew, helpers and the gallery itself for this wonderful opportunity to showcase some of the larger pieces of her artwork. It was well received, with wonderful feedback and a number of successful sales to boot. Click here to see more.
